Loss in Nanaimo concludes winless weekend for Spruce Kings

The Prince George Spruce Kings (7-5-2-3) couldn’t come back from two down as they fell 5-2 in Nanaimo.

The Clippers scored early in the first and then with just one second to go in the period to snag a 2-0 lead after the first 20 minutes.

Jarod Hovde put home his sixth of the year to cut the lead in half before Nanaimo restored the two-goal lead with a shorthanded marker late in the frame to head into the final period ahead 3-1.

The Spruce Kings had some life early on the back of a Nick Bochen goal, his first in just his second game of the season.

It wasn’t enough, though, as the Clippers scored on the powerplay before sealing the deal with an empty netter.

Kyle Johnson earned third star of the game with an assist, while Evan DeBrouwer had 25 saves in the losing effort against his former club.

Prince George is off until Friday when they clash with the Chiefs in Chilliwack.
