Prince George snow crews are plowing and sanding City streets as we speak due to the recent snowfall.
Despite the amount we’ve seen in the last day and a half, it’s not enough activity for operations staff to declare a “snow event.”
That’s according to Roads and Fleet Manager Blake McIntosh.
“It is defined as an accumulation of more than 75 millimetres of snow within a 24-hour time frame. We were close to that yesterday, but not quite. It’s important to know however that city forces are out there performing winter operations.”
He says higher protocols are enabled based on Prince George’s plowing priority chart.
“The timelines are controlled based on the snow and ice control procedures. So, for Priority Ones and Twos, we have 48 hours to clear those. Following the completion of that, we would have 72 hours to clear residential areas, or Priority Threes.”
McIntosh adds crews are applying traction materials to make sure the main drags are safe for drivers at this time, and they’re continuing to monitor the weather as well.
He encourages commuters to have the proper equipment, like winter tires, and to take your time in getting to places while co-operating with on-scene workers.
