First-year goalie for the Prince George Cougars, Taylor Gauthier, backstopped one of Canada’s three World Under-17 Hockey Challenge teams to a fourth-place finish.
The team Canada White starter played in five games, allowing 10 goals and finished with a 3-2 record.
Even at just 16-years-old, Gauthier says he realizes what it means to represent his country on the international stage.
“It’s obviously great to get out there and play with some of the best in the world and in the country,” explains Gauthier.
“I take great honour in representing my country and I thought I did a pretty good job of that.”
Gauthier is just a rookie on the Cougars but even with his limited experience in the Western Hockey League, he was propelled to being one of the most leaned-on players at the U-17’s.
“Being one of the guys in the room who speak up at the end of a rough period or just talk to the guys about anything, so I’d like to say that I took up a leadership role while I was up there.”
The games were played in Fort St. John and Dawson Creek.
The 10th overall pick in the 2016 WHL Bantam Draft returns to Prince George now with a 2-4-1 record, hoping he can be a part to turn around the Cougars less-than-spectacular start to the 2017-18 season.
