The Prince George Salvation Army has decided to not hoist its annual Tree of Lights on top of the Coast Inn of the North this year.
The non-profit says this is, in part, due to the difficulty of getting the tree on top of the roof.
Captain Neil Wilkinson explains another reason for the cancellation.
“What we were trying to do is reimagine how we can use the symbol of the Tree of Lights as a Beacon of Hope for this community in different ways. We had been working on a plan for planning a different location, and unfortunately we weren’t able to get our plans together in time for Christmas.”
This ends a 30-year Christmas season tradition in the City.
Captain Wilkinson adds there is one place in particular they hope to light up in 2018.
“We’d like to put it next to Mr. PG at the corner of Highway 16 and Highway 97, and there’s been a few other suggestions as well as to where an appropriate place may be. At this point though, we’re looking at all of our options in bringing hope to those that need it most.”
He assures the Tree Lights will continue for years to come and they were just unfortunate to find a spot in time for the holidays.
