Prince George water is still safe to drink: City

The City of Prince George is ensuring local residents about its drinking water and how it’s still safe to consume.

A recent study by the Public Works and Engineering Department explains research conducted at 24 different civic city-owned buildings showed low levels of lead that meet Canada Drinking Water Guidelines.

However, Manager Dave Dyer encourages residents to run the water for at least 30 seconds.

“During the day there‘s no issues no issues because usually there’s people that have already filled the water, but that first sample that you might get first thing in the morning for example after a night in the system, there could be an issue.”

He adds sink faucets used less frequently, particularly in older facilities, could potentially carry more lead as they hardly get flushed.

“There are certain areas where you think that there might be a period of time before your sampling or taking water to consume, to run the tap until the water is cold. It’s really just a precaution if you’re going to consume it for drinking purposes.”

Dyer will be making a formal presentation about the City’s water supply at Monday night’s council meeting.
