Hundreds of low income families to benefit from Community Christmas

For a 15th straight year, Community Christmas is just around the corner, and the St. Vincent de Paul Society (SVDP) is encouraging Prince George to continue the giving spirit.

Local residents are being asked to donate non-perishable food items, toys for kids, and clothing for low incomes families, single parents, and children in poverty.

SVDP Director Bernie Goold says on average, they fill more than 300 hampers every year.

“It makes them feel like they’re just normal parents and that they can do things that they wouldn’t normally do. We want to make it uplifting for everyone so that on Christmas morning, it is special for the families and for the kids.”

She adds it’s important to not forget about the ‘working poor’ as they are also trying to make ends meet and will benefit from this annual event.

Goold adds she’s looking forward to seeing some familiar faces when it comes to giving.

“When we get donations from people year after year, it’s like an old friend stopping by even though it may come in the mail or maybe dropped off. When I’m writing receipts and sending out ‘thank yous,’ it’s like you’re sending it to a friend over the years.”

Community Christmas takes place at our VISTA Radio studios on Ferry Avenue and Ospika Boulevard Wednesday and Thursday, 6AM to 6PM each day.
