PRINCE GEORGE COUGARS:

The Prince George Cougars are 1-1 on a five-game home-stand that continues tonight against the Kootenay Ice.

The 10-14-2-2 Cougars are two points behind Kamloops and four back of third place Vancouver in the BC Division.

The 13-15-1 Ice sit third in the Central Division, although they have given up 25 more goals than they have scored.

It’s the only meeting of the season between the two teams.

 

WESTERN HOCKEY LEAGUE:

Vancouver Giants host the Portland Winterhawks this evening.

BC DIVISION STANDINGS:

Victoria, 31 games = 18-10-3 (39 points)
Kelowna, 28 games = 17-8-2-1 (37 points)
Vancouver, 29 games = 12-13-2-2 (28 points)
Kamloops, 28 games = 13-15 (26 points)
Prince George, 28 games = 10-14-2-2 (24 points)

WESTERN CONFERENCE WILD CARD:

Tri-City, 26 games = 14-9-3 (31 points)
Seattle, 28 games = 12-13-2-1 (27 points)
Kamloops, 28 games = 13-15 (26 points)

PRINCE GEORGE SPRUCE KINGS:

The 16-10-2-3 Prince George Spruce Kings host the 8-16-2-4 Alberni Valley Bulldogs Friday and the 19-8-2-1 Wenatchee Wild Saturday.

The Spruce Kings are 12-2-1-1 on home ice and have won four straight.

MAINLAND DIVISION STANDINGS:

Langley, 33 games = 15-8-9-1 (40 points)
Prince George, 31 games = 16-10-2-3 (37 points)
Surrey, 32 games = 16-12-3-1 (36 points)
Chilliwack, 32 games = 15-13-2-2 (34 points)
Coquitlam, 29 games = 4-22-1-2 (11 points)

 

CARIBOO COUGARS:

The Cariboo Cougars are half-way through their 40-game BCMML regular season schedule.

The 15-4-1 Major Midget Cougars are in second place, four points behind the 17-2-1 Valley West Hawks.

Cariboo will host the 7-13 Thompson Blazers Saturday at 4PM and Sunday at 10AM at Kin 1.

 

NHL:

Philadelphia            5           Calgary           2

Flyers ended a 10 game losing streak. Philadelphia defenceman Brandon Manning of Prince George was -1 with no points in 17:18 of ice time.

Washington             4           San Jose         1

Capitals forward Brett Connolly of Prince George scored his 4th goal of the season and it came on the power play.

Connolly was on the ice for 13 minutes and 47 seconds, about half of it on the power play.

Nashville                  5          Boston             3

NY Islanders            5          Florida            3        (SO)

The 13-10-2 Vancouver Canucks host the 11-9-5 Carolina Hurricanes tonight. The Canucks are tied with San Jose for 3rd in the Pacific Division, a point ahead of Calgary.

 

UNBC TIMBERWOLVES:

The UNBC Timberwolves are 4-8 and tied for 11th place in both the men’s and women’s Canada West basketball standings.

The top 12 advance to the playoffs.

Both UNBC teams resume their league schedule on Jan 5-6 when they host UBC-Okanagan.

 

NFL:

Pittsburgh Steelers   23    Cincinnati Bengals        20

Steelers rallied from a 17-0 deficit and won the game on a last play field goal.

Pittsburgh is tied with New England, Philadelphia, and Minnesota at 10-2 for the best record in the NFL.

The game was full of personal fouls, penalties, and injuries.

Steelers leading tackler Ryan Shazier suffered a back injury early in the game and was taken off the field on a cart before going to a hospital for evaluation.

Shazier will not require surgery at this time.

Eli Manning is back as the starting quarterback of the New York Giants.

The decision was made after the 2-10 Giants sacked Head Coach Ben McAdoo and General Manager Jerry Reese.

Defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo has taken over as the Giants interim head coach.

The NFL has suspended New England Patriots’ tight end Rob Gronkowski one game for his hit on Buffalo Bills cornerback Tre’Davious White.

Gronkowski pile-drove his shoulder into White’s head while he was on the ground after intercepting a Tom Brady pass.

 

NBA:

Cleveland Cavaliers      113       Chicago Bulls         91

12th straight victory for the 17-7 Cavaliers.

The 14-7 Toronto Raptors host the 9-16 Phoenix Suns this evening.

City Council to discuss potential purchasing bylaw amendments

Prince George City Council will consider a notice of motion in regards to the disposal of assets at tomorrow's (Monday) meeting. The notice of motion was put forward by Councillors Cori Ramsay and Brian Skakun, and recommends that Council refers the City's purchasing bylaw to bring back options to better articulate section 5.3 of the bylaw. 

Nechako Valley claims PG Bowl win over College Heights

The Nechako Valley Secondary School Vikings are moving onto provincials following a 24-6 trouncing over College Heights in the PG Bowl. "The boys came to play, I'm super proud of them," said Nechako Valley Head Coach Sheldon Brown. 

Spruce Kings pick up win over Salmon Arm

The Prince George Spruce Kings scored early and often in a 4-1 win over the Salmon Arm Silverbacks. Dracen Campbell got the 1,009 fans at Kopar Memorial Arena in to the game early, opening the scoring for the Spruce Kings just 4:08 into the first.
