More downtown housing could be coming to PG

At the December 18th, 2017, regular council meeting, council will consider a major housing development downtown.

“It’s very important to have affordable housing in Prince George that is quality stock,” says City Manager Kathleen Soltis.

“It looks, to us, that we’re close to getting to that goal of housing downtown that’s been on council’s radar for about 30 years.”

The 151-unit condominium would be built in four phases between City Hall and Queensway Street, north of Connaught Hill.

“The downtown, in general, has been pinpointed for housing,” explains Soltis.

“We’ve wanted to have multi-family residents downtown to draw people there and keep them after five when businesses shut down.”

Underneath the housing would be underground parking with nearly 290 stalls and an additional 64 space on the surface.

A provision would be included as part of that, as 133 of the new undergrounds spaces would be reserved at a reduced rate for the condo residents.
