The recruiting has started for the UNBC Timberwolves men’s soccer team.
Prince George midfielder Anthony Preston has committed to the Timberwolves for the 2018 season.
The 17-year-old plays for the Prince George Youth Soccer Association (PGYSA) U-18 team.
He is familiar with many of the current UNBC players after participating in a number of training sessions with the team as he prepares to adjust to the challenge of playing in Canada West.
“It’s a lot faster and a lot harder and more physical. I am going to have to do a lot more training than I have had to previously, to play at this level. I am excited to do that, though.”
Timberwolves Head Coach Steve Simonson feels Preston brings intangibles to the pitch.
“What you don’t see at first glance is the toughness and tenacity that he brings. He is right in there among our veterans, and he can handle the pace of game and the physicality of the game.”
Preston, who will graduate from Duchess Park in June, plans to enroll in sciences at UNBC.
“UNBC offers a lot of courses that I am interested in, so it’s a really good choice for academics as well.”
