An Asset Management Strategy is now in place for the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George.
The Regional District’s assets are estimated $54 million.
Like most places, the RDFFG has some infrastructure in need of upgrading according to Chief Administrative Officer Jim Martin.
“We have arena’s in the Robson Valley in both Valemount and McBride and they were built back in the 70s and their design life we suspect is being close to the end and to replace things like that, you’re probably looking at fifteen million dollars a piece.”
Having this plan in place is crucial added Martin.
“It includes things like buildings, sewers, water systems, water systems and things like rolling stock like fire trucks. We want to make sure that we have the right kind of budgeting systems in place that when these things need to be replaced we can accommodate that,”
“We don’t have healthy reserve funds and we’ve had to do emergency repairs and certainly if we had a proper asset management plan in place we would know when we should be planning for routine maintenance and repairing of different pieces of the infrastructure,”
The Regional District also approved several appointments last week including Prince George Mayor Lyn Hall who was named to the Municipal Finance Authority.
