Council approves downtown housing, parkade development

Plans laid out by A&T Project Developments | Matt Fetinko, My PG Now

From “game changer” to the “turning point” for downtown Prince George, there was no end to the praise given for a new development project for PG.

Council approved a partnership agreement with A&T Project Developments, the same group that built the Riverbend Seniors Community complex, that will allow for a 151-unit condominium and parkade development.

The project will include four buildings and be built in four phases between City Hall and Queensway Street, north of Connaught Hill.

“I think it’s probably going to be about a three- to four-year project,” explains A&T Project Developments Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Gary Reed.

“We’re starting in the area where phase one is going to be built, so as soon as that area of the parkade is finished, we’ll start the construction of building one, so we don’t have to wait for the whole parkade to be finished in order to start building one.”

Construction is expected to begin late spring 2018; Reed believes building one will be underway late summer or early fall.

There have been times a major announcement like this has been made with no results, however, Reed says that won’t be the case with this particular project.

“We’ve been around a long time, over 25 years, we have a proven track record around the province, we’ve never started a project that we haven’t finished ever.”

The city estimates the project will directly or indirectly result in around 630 jobs.
