Any birds and wildlife in Prince George won’t have to watch their step anymore thanks to some new animal mitigation equipment from BC Hydro.
The Chief Lake Road Substation is one of several places to install bird guards.
“The chances of them (wildlife) contacting equipment is kind of small but if they do, it can lead to an outage. This is one more way to reduce the risk of outages to our customers,” says Bob Gammer, Northern Spokesperson.
The new equipment is a new standard for BC Hydro and is expected to be installed at all substations across the province.
“This is one more way to reduce the risk of outages to our customers that are fed out of this substation, which actually is a significant number it’s over 9,000 customers in the north part of the city who received their power from Chief Lake substation.”
The substation has been upgraded over the past year including the animal mitigation measure.
