The average temperature for Northern BC this year has been unveiled by Environment Canada.
The combined daytime highs and overnight lows for Prince George, Vanderhoof and the Bulkley Valley and Lakes District resulted in a seasonal year.
“Overall, our temperature was pretty close to normal, we’re looking at normal temperatures of four point two degrees, this year, we are sitting at four point three degrees,” says Cindy Yu, Meteorologist.
The seasons were also a lot more distinct in 2017.
Yu believes a worldwide phenomenon might be responsible.
“Climate change could be a factor and we’re certainly seeing more extreme events with droughts in the summer were more severe and of course in the winter and spring seasons was saw a higher than normal precipitation.”
Sticking to the topic of precipitation, the year as a whole was a little drier than normal.
“Our normal precipitation is somewhere around five hundred and ninety-four millimetres and this year we received five hundred and thirty-one, so about ninety percent of the normal.”
The predicted daytime high for Prince George on New Year’s Day is sunny skies and -18 degrees.
