UPDATE: Hart fire deals estimated $40,000 worth of damages

A blaze in the Hart region this morning resulted in the destruction of a local shop.

No injuries were reported.

At about 9:30am, Prince George firefighters from three different halls responded to a fire on Opal and Nordic Drives near Highway 97.

They were able to extinguish the flames within 45 minutes of arrival.

Spokesperson Aaron Bell describes how the incident started.

“A wood stove was put on in the morning, and then a neighbour came running across the street saying the building was on fire about a half an hour after it was lit.”

Bell adds a neighbour heard loud crackling from the shop’s garage and started running along the street to warn everyone else.

The cause of the fire has been determined to be an accident.

Damages are an estimated $40,000.
