Council plows through snow debate and parking bylaw

The city has approved a new amendment which will see snow and ice removal split into three priorities.

Public Works Associate Director Gina Layte Liston says the first and second priorities, which includes downtown and the bus routes will see snow removed within 48 hours of the end of a snowfall, while priority three, which is residential roads, will see completion within 72 hours.

She also discussed the cost of the endeavor:

“So we’re looking at approximately one hundred and fifty to two hundred thousand dollars that has been included in the budget for 2014-15. That is mainly to do with the rentals and retainers needed for graders, loaders, and dump trucks.”

Council also approved a parking bylaw, which sees parking restricted in the priority one areas from 10 pm to 7 am with the exception of the business district which is from 12 to 7 am.
