Horgan Preparing To Depart To Asia This Weekend

Premier John Horgan spoke to media today about his upcoming trip to Asia.

He’ll be on a 10-day trade mission to re-establish relationships between China, Japan and South Korea and British Columbia.

Asia has an important part to play in our economy said Horgan

“Certainly it’s almost obligatory for a leader of the government of British Columbia to visit our major trading partners China, Japan and Korea are significant drivers of economic activity here in British Columbia.”

China is the provinces second largest importer, as they took in $5.9 billion in goods back in 2016.

Japan is BC’s third biggest trade partner.

Horgan also mentioned there will be other topics brought up while he’s over seas.

“Money laundering, speculation on real estate in British Columbia, the fentanyl crisis all comes from outside of our boarder, that’s the whole essence of off shore investment and speculation. It’s not confined to China it’s not confined to one geographic.”

He added what they know is money raised in other parts of the world is distorting our housing market and his government wants to take steps to address that.

Horgan leaves for Asia this Saturday.
