Beaudry elated over first Olympic selection

A Prince George athlete is looking forward to her first Olympic experience in PyeongChang South Korea next month.

Sarah Beaudry, 23, is an alternate in Biathalon heading into the games.

The whole thing is still kind of surreal.

“I don’t think it will truly sink in until you get there,  you get your bag full of all the Canada clothes close to  the village,  it’s definitely pretty exciting and something I’ve been working towards for many years and happy to be able to go there and represent Canada and Prince George.”

However, Beaudry still has some important races to compete in before heading to the games, which could affect on how she is utilized at the games.

“I am hoping to race well these next two weeks so that the coaches feel like I’m a good candidate to put into the relay events later in the week if that happens hopefully I can produce a solid light to put the team in a good position.”

“The other four girls will get the individual events and I won’t start unless one of them gets injured or sick between now and then, which I do not wish upon them and then the relay events will be the coaches discretion,” states Beaudry.

The 23-year-old will also be joining three-time Olympian and fellow local product Megan Tandy.

Beaudry says its cool to line up beside someone she looked up to when first introduced to the sport.

“It’s definitely neat going with Megan especially because when I started at the Caledonia Club she was one of the older athletes and looked up to her and followed her progression from youth world champs to junior world champs to the national team and now the Olympics.”

The winter games run from February 9th to 25th.
