Prevention is the main message from Northern Health this year as the flu season draws near. The health authority is offering free flu shots in the coming weeks to those who want to get vaccinated. But Northern Interior Health Officer William Osei says the best dose against influenza is not treatment, but prevention.
“You can reduce the chance of getting influenza, or spreading it to others by washing your hands regularly, promptly disposing of a used tissue in the waste basket or garbage, coughing or sneezing into your shirt sleeves rather than your hands.”
Osei says getting the flu vaccine can also help prevent you and others from getting. Northern Health anticipates to give out between 45-50,000 doses of flu vaccine by the end of the flu season.
The first set of flu clinic dates are:
Prince George
October 19 – 10:00 am to 3:00 pm – Healthier You Expo
November 3 – 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. – Northern Interior Health Unit
Vanderhoof – Health Unit
November 3 – 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
