City officials were on hand at the Kin Lounge Thursday night to talk about the 2018 Ball Park and Sport Field Strategy.
Attendees had a chance to look over the strategy, ask questions, and even give their own feedback about how they would recommend moving forward.
Many of the questions were about the exclusive user agreements, says Parks Division Community Coordinator, Robyn McConkey.
“A lot of the people that we were talking to were really interested in how exclusive user agreements work,” she explains.
“So basically, how do exclusive users use the fields, what are there requirements to use the fields, can other groups have access to high-quality facilities.”
Following their presentation to council earlier in the week, the message to the public remains largely the same.
“We want everyone to understand where we are, where we’ve come from, and in order to understand that, we can move forward to make that change,” explains Strategic Parks Planner, Laurie-Ann Kosec.
“So understanding that Prince George is unique, it’s not Kamloops, it’s not Vancouver, and we’ll get there together if there’s cooperation and there’s trust.”
The next step is to work with user groups and figure out ways to improve and improve upon the city’s ball diamonds and sport facilities, thinking of ways to bring in large sporting events and tournaments to the city, and figuring out the hard lines of making change.
