Premier John Horgan Provides Update On Asia Trip

There are opportunities to expand the energy sector in BC, but Premier John Horgan says it’s to early to make promises.

Horgan is in Asia on a 10-day trade mission to discuss topics from softwood lumber, tourism, and liquefied natural gas.

He says there have been discussions on how to bring growth to the energy industry in BC, but he wants to strike a deal that’s right for the province.

Pacific Northwest LNG has withdrew their $36 billion proposal project back in summer 2017, but Kitimat LNG is still looking to develop in Northern BC.

Horgan also added there this huge potential for technology growth for British Columbia.

he signed an agreement with the social media platform WeChat, which is a Chinese multi-purpose social media app and is one of the largest with over 980 million users.

In doing this, he says this will increase tourism in BC.

“That is a real opportunity for diversification in, particularly, rural British Columbia. We want to get tourism out of Vancouver and Victoria and into the Cariboo, Okanagan, and Kootenays.”

Overall, Horgan stated it has been a successful trip to Asia.
