Canada Games Plaza ammonia plant potentially shutting down

A decision needs to be made on the future of the ammonia plant at Canada Games Plaza.

The plant currently services the outdoor skating rink at the plaza.

A report was brought up at the January 22nd regular council meeting regarding the plant and whether or not it makes sense to maintain its services.

About $610,000 in maintenance and capital costs is what the city would face if the plant remains operational, despite the low outdoor rink user numbers.

If decommissioned, the outdoor rink would stay preserved in the short-term, similar to the other 20 outdoors rinks across the city.

Voting was pushed back by Councillor Garth Frizzell, now voting will take place on January 29th.
