City crews preparing for the worst as winter storm approaches

Prince George city crews are gearing up for the snowy forecast expected to last through the weekend.

Environment Canada says 30 to 40 centimetres could fall between tonight and Sunday.

When the city gets 7.5 centimetres of snow priority’s one and two are implemented, and Manager of City Roads and Fleets Blake McIntosh is asking for the public to be patient with this process.

“Bus routes, the hospital district and downtown will be our main focus. Should the snow stop than restart again, and we get another threshold event, we would most likely go back and restart the priorities one and two.”

In the case of restarting the system, it could be Monday before crews start working on residential areas.

Motorists are being reminded about the parking restrictions in place until April 15th which goes as follows:

  • On-street parking is prohibited from 10pm to 7am on Priority One roads and hills, the hospital district, and a number of other designated roads.
  • On-street parking is prohibited from 12pm to 7am downtown.
  • On-street parking is prohibited from 8am to 6pm in residential areas. parking on the side of the street with odd house numbers is permitted from 6pm to 8am unless otherwise posted.
  • Illegally parked vehicles are subject to a $50 ticket per offence and/or may be towed.

“Parked cars just cause a mess and it’s not as efficient with the grader operation, so, if people could keep the cars off the street it would be greatly appreciated” explained McIntosh.

The snow is expected to stop sometime Sunday night or Monday morning.
