IMSS Receives funding from the community

The Immigrant and Multicultural Services Society(IMSS) received a check for $1,200, raised from an event held on International Women’s Day last year.

The money was presented by the Ramada Plaza’s General Manager Heather Oland, along with Prince George-Valemount MLA Shirley Bond, to help both the Childminding program and Sewing Program for Women at IMSS.

Oland explained they hold an annual event called Celebrating Women Who Make a Difference, which has inspirational speakers come out.

“We had a woman from Syria who had recently come to the country, and so, she shared her story about her time having to leave her country and what that was like and also her experience of coming to a new country, so that was very moving.”

Oland said this donation was very important for both her and MLA Bond because PG sees its share of immigrants coming from around the world.

On Friday March 2nd, the Ramada Plaza hotel will hold the same event and have another group of speakers attend to celebrate international women’s Day.
