United Nations of Canada opening branch in Prince George

The newest branch of the United Nations Association of Canada is opening here in Prince George.

The branch is the 3rd in BC and is hosting a public forum at UNBC on Monday.

UNAC President Guilliana Tamblyn says the UN is trying to target global issues such as poverty in developed countries too;

“As we can see, poverty isn’t just in developing countries. We have poverty here in Prince George. The new sustainable development goals are aiming to end poverty worldwide. So we would like to hear local perspectives on things like poverty here in PG”

The forum is being held Oct 20th from 11:30-1:30 at the Gathering Place – Room 5-123. A delegation from the association will also speak to city council that day followed by a fundraising dinner at the Twisted Cork later that evening.

The City of PG is declaring October 24th UN Day and will be raising the UN flag that morning at city hall in celebration of the 69th anniversary of the founding of the UN following WWII.
