New nuisance bylaw adopted by city council

Prince George city council has approved the adoption of a new Nuisance Abatement and Cost Recovery bylaw.

The bylaw fairly self-explanatory. It will regulate, prohibit, and impose the requirements needed to reduce nuisances, while also providing a recovery process for the costs and resources needed to handle such calls.

“It really is about using our resources wisely and people should be responsible for it,” Councillor Murry Krause explains.

“There was some concern raised about if that would stop people from calling 9-1-1 if they should need it, of course, that’s not what it was ever created for, but it will be a process.”

Accountability is the main focus for the new bylaw, says Krause.

“If it’s one particular site that is constantly calling and it’s a variety of calls, not just the RCMP but it’s a variety of other calls too, it’s really just about making sure we can handle that,” he adds.

In the past, there have been sites that needed to be shut down due to too many calls being made surrounding them. This bylaw could potentially mean more of that happening.
