Canadian Blood Services is reporting a dramatic turnaround in donations after news got out they were running dry.
Prince George manager Amy Erickson says the increase in blood donations to Canadian Blood Services has increased 20% nationally.
“Ever since we issued the appeal about the low blood inventory, the number of new donors coming through the clinic has been crazy,” she says. “That’s a good thing for us, it’s good to see new people coming out, they understand the need for blood, we just hope they come back.”
However, she says PG is trailing Kelowna in the current Interior Blood Drive for Life.
“Unfortunately, we pulled ahead of them in Week Four, but in Week Five, they inched ahead of us again,” Erickson says. “So, Prince George is sitting at 97% to target, and Kelowna is sitting at nearly 99% to target.”
The Prince George branch of Canadian Blood Services is open every Wednesday and Thursday.
