Calls to tow truck companies through the roof after massive snowfall

Prince George residents may have had, or are having, trouble with their commute today after the dumping of snow we received.

Tow truck drivers have been putting in long hours to help with people who have run a ground in the snow.

Black Sheep Auto Towing was the last company running Wednesday night, and in the span of 24 hours there phone has been ringing off the hook.

“We are averaging beyond triple our call volume. I’d say, probably, 10 to 20 times the regular call volume. We are looking at 80 to 90 calls an hour,” says President and CEO of Black Sheep Auto Towing, James Barron.

In that time his company has help around 60 people, most of them in small compact vehicles.

“The majority were newer, smaller cars with traction control, which really isn’t good for northern conditions because as soon as people step on the accelerator traction control shuts down.”

New cars make it hard for tow trucks to hook up and pull them out, which can result in loss of time to get to other customers.

Barron also noted he was proud to see the community come together and help others who were stuck in the stormy conditions, along with how much work the city has put in to handle the conditions.
