Sounds like Prince George residents are hurrying hard to the box office.

In a release, the City says ticket deposits for the bid to host the 2020 Brier have eclipsed 500 tickets in more than two weeks of the announcement.

CN Centre Manager Glen Mikkelsen is impressed with the level of support thse far.

“We’re definitely using this encouragement as an opportunity with the Olympics starting this week as another chance for us to focus on curling and the fun and the great event that it is for everyone.”

Early purchases for the men’s national curling championship are listed for $20.20, with a goal of getting 2,020 purchasers by April 15th.

Mikkelsen however would like to reach more than 3,000 before the deadline.

“People need to realize that we’re trying to bring Canada’s greatest winter party to Prince George and to do that, it’s not just curling fans we need. It’s fans of sporting events and social events; if we’re just hanging on the curling community here to support this event, that’s not enough people for sure. We need to bring the broader community and I think we’re on a track to get there.”

The tickets reserve seating for the competition should Prince George win the bid against St. Catherine’s, Ontario; Kingston, Ontario, and Moncton, New Brunswick.

Curling Canada must receive PG’s bid by June 30th; the event would also celebrate 100 years of curling in the Northern Capital.
