FortisBC received an award from the BC Economic Development Association for their efforts during the devastating wildfires.
During that period, FortisBC assisted BCEDA to launch a hotline dedicated to helping businesses access resources they needed to stay open.

“Maybe they had a flood at their premiss or maybe there was access issues where customers couldn’t get to their business. We would take all that information down and talk with them about it and than send that on to the BCEDA who would take action on those items,” says VP, Costumer Service, and Information Systems Dawn Mahrer.
She added the wildfire situation was a good example of their employees using the skills they have to help customers and is happy for the recognition.

“I’m so grateful people took the time out to come here and recognize the staff because they are the ones, obviously, who did the heavy lifting here and were really important to our customers. So, I’m really grateful for the plaque but also for the day and for the celebration of our employees.”
FortisBC responded to 493 calls and was up and running for 10 weeks.
