Exploration Place in Prince George hosting STEAM Workshop on Thursday

Exploration Place in Prince George is encouraging the public to join them in building a new education system for the next generation.

A workshop involving the subjects of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Design, and Math, or STEAM, will build upon the type of jobs that could become available for kids in the decades ahead.

“If we can help create a group of kids grow into adults who have the skills in place to continue to learn and develop in critical thinking and problem solving an project management-based learning than they are going to be better to take on those jobs in the future,” says Amanda Smedley, Deputy Director of Exploration Place.

Along with the public, representatives from School District 57, UNBC and CNC will be in attendance.

“They will help develop an ecosystem and it’s basically a loosely associated network of organizations who are all involved in some way, shape or form who have a passion for it and want to share with the next generation of youth out there.”

Public agencies like the City of Prince George, the Department of Oceans and Fisheries along with Genome BC will also be around.

A similar workshop was held last year with Vancouver-based Science World in Prince George

The event gets underway Thursday morning at 9 AM.
