Police arrest two suspects for counterfeit connections

Prince George RCMP made multiple arrests this morning for recent cases of counterfeit in the City.

Before 9:30AM, police executed a search warrant at a home on the 3200 block of Monahan Crescent in College Heights and seized several items.

Officers were forced to knock the door down as it was reinforced prior to arresting two women inside the home.

According to Corporal Craig Douglass, the North District Emergency Response Team (ERT) was called in to help with the investigation, which he says is a rare request from the RCMP.

“This is an exception due to the high amount of counterfeit reports we’ve received. In the last two-and-a-half months or so, these types of cases have increased by 389% in Prince George compared to last year, so it’s definitely an unusual situation for us.”

Police are once again reminding local businesses to always double-check the bill before accepting the payment.

They also encourage to visit the Bank of Canada’s website for more ways to recognize the signs of fake money.

Anyone with more information on counterfeit in their community is asked to call the Prince George RCMP at (250) 561-3300, or Crime-Stoppers at 1 (800) 222-8477.
