Degrees work according to new survey

A recent survey has shown that having a degree pays off…literally. A report called Putting Degrees to Work, has shown the unemployment rate amongst 2008 university graduates in BC is 4.6%. The survey, released by BC’s six research universities, also showed that university graduates earn a yearly average of $60,000. UNBC President, Dr. Daniel Weeks says this helps clear up a misunderstanding amongst the public when it comes to post-secondary education.

“You know that a university education doesn’t have the values that is used to have,” says Weeks, “and that’s just not the case, that data and every other indicator we have shows that our graduates are doing well, their financial situation is far greater if they possess a post-secondary degree.”

The current provincial unemployment rate is 6.6%.
