BC’s top baby names for 2014

British Columbia’s Vital Statistics Agency has released the most popular baby names of 2014.

For the third straight year, Olivia was the top name for girls born in BC.

Ethan edged out the previous years number one name, Liam. Ethan has been in the number one or two spot since 2002 in BC.

Rounding out the top five for boys was Lucas, Oliver and Mason,

For baby girls other names in the top five were Emma, Sophia, Emily and Chloe.

There were 44,500 babies born in B.C. in 2014: 22,957 boys and 21,543 girls.

Preliminary stats for 2015 show what could be the year of the Olive. For now, Olivia remains on top with Oliver so far edging out Liam and Ethan.
