SD 57 superintendent speaks on recent social media threat

A social media threat on Wednesday, March 28th, caused disruption for School District 57 and DP Todd Secondary School, even forcing an arrest on a youth male.

Now, superintendent Marilyn Marquis-Forester is speaking on the incident, praising the work done by everyone involved.

“Security, the safety of our students and staff facilities is always a top priority,” she says.

“Any of the threats need to be given their appropriate attention anything we can do to assist the RCMP we are more than happy to do so and [Wednesday] is a great example.”

When asked about the role technology plays in situations like this one, Marquis-Forester says it changes the game and adds an extra level of difficulty.

“It’s a new landscape, students have access to information and connections, and the ability to communicate in ways that have never existed,” she explains.

“It’s inherent in our role to be aware of that and to be diligent about it.”

Marquis-Forester is proud of Prince George as a community during the difficult situation, saying she is lucky to be working in a city like PG.
