UNBC women’s soccer player to strut her stuff at RBC Training Ground event

Former UNBC Timberwolves women’s soccer player Tianna Pius is headed to an RBC Training Ground event in Richmond on Saturday.

She impressed at a similar event in Prince George back in January.

Pius decided to give it a shot after completing her final season with the T-Wolves.

“I didn’t go last year because I was actually injured at the time and I decided to go this year because I am graduating and will no longer be playing for the Timberwolves women’s soccer team so I decided to give it a shot.”

The RBC Training Ground gives athletes the opportunity to test their strength, speed and, endurance from 14 Olympic sports.

“The endurance testing for this one is going to be an arm-leg bike like an elliptical and there’s going to be a bike sprint and then they are going to test our bounding, the two-foot jump just standing to see how far you can go.”

The 22-year-old has predominantly been a soccer all of her life, dabbling in volleyball and basketball while attending high school at PGSS.

“I’ve never actually thought of trying any other kind of sport before as it’s been just soccer since day one but I think it could be interesting to see what I could try because the next step after this is you get invited on and the test you in a bunch of different sports to judge and see how you do and assess what you could be good at.”

“When I was in the January one they were talking and saying I should get into rowing and it was kind of interesting because I don’t know how they can determine that from all the testing,” added Pius.

Since being invited, Pius has received an outpouring of support from those closest to her.

“Prince George is awesome because I didn’t even know a lot of people knew about it and it’s just kind of nice that everyone is saying congrats and wishing me good luck and I feel really fortunate to have the support behind me and I hope I do them proud.”
