Municipal election advertising sees changes

The provincial government has introduced new rules for municipal campaign signs.

Among other things the change will see all campaign advertising include sponsorship information on signage and posters.

Don Main is with Elections BC, and says candidates also have a time period in which to report all campaign funding:

“So the money that they spend, that they incur and they spend during the local elections, has to be reported to Elections BC 90 days after general voting day which is on November 15th”

This has been done at a provincial level for years, but now moves into the Municipal sector, and those not in compliance by election day could face penalties, including disqualification from the election.
