ICBC Speaker to connect with youth in Northern BC

Every year during graduation season, there are over 400 crashes involving youth that result in 80 injuries in Northern BC.

To remind students about the importance of making the right decision, ICBC is brining a speaker to the Northern region to share her personal experience about impaired driving.

Tiana Tozer, ICBC Road Safety Speaker, was 20-years-old when she was hit by an intoxicated driver.

“On May 14th 1988, an intoxicated driver ran a stop sign in Eugene, Oregon, and broadside the car I was driving. I was thrown out and run over by a 3,000 pound vehicle.”

After the incident, Tozer was wheelchair bound and it took four-years and thirty four surgeries for her to walk again.

She’s hoping her message of think before you drive will reach people in our region.

“Driving deserves your full attention. It is a privilege, not a right. Always wear your seatbelt no matter where you are in the car. Also the intoxication level that are imposed aren’t necessary the right levels. For example, the man who ran over me blew a .09 and in the United States at that time Wisconsin and Oregon were the only two that had the .08 law. So, it depends on your body type and how much you’ve had to eat that day.”

Tozer will be in Prince George starting Monday and speaking at the following schools:
