Boese captures prestigious Kelly Cup

The Garnet Boese rink of Prince George outscored Ron Vanderstar of Smithers 7-1 in the final of the 91st annual men’s Kelly Cup Bonspiel at the Prince George Golf and Curling Club.

It is the first Kelly Cup title for the 60-year-old Boese, who had been runner-up four times.

Vanderstar earlier captured the Wilf Peckham Trophy that goes to the winner of the “A” event.

40 teams competed.

Last year’s winner, Blake King, did not defend his title because he participated at the Canadian Firefighters Curling Association national championship in Thunder Bay, finishing fifth with a 5-5 record and out of the playoffs.
