Former PG Cougars coach lands in Duncan

After being out of work since Christmas, Mike Vandekamp has a new job.

The ex-Prince George Cougars bench boss has been hired by the Cowichan Valley Capitals as Head Coach and General Manager.

Vandekamp held both jobs with the Nanaimo Clippers before he was let go in December, for what was reported as irreconcilable differences with management and the new owner.

The Fort. St. John native has coached Junior hockey for 23 seasons in the BCHL, WHL, and AJHL.

Vandekamp coached the Cougars to a 35-31-0-6 record in 2005-06.

Prince George let him go after he began the 2006-07 season with just five wins in 15 games (5-8-0-2).

Former Capitals coach and GM Brian Passmore will remain with Cowichan in the position of Hockey Development.
