Hall, City of Prince George sending messages of support to Humboldt

The Humboldt Broncos bus crash has shaken up the entire country including right here in Prince George.

City officials and Mayor Lyn Hall wasted little time sending an email of support for the Saskatchewan city.

“We sent our condolences to the mayor and his community along with the families of all of the players and we said if there is anything we can do at all as a community please let us know, so I put that offer out there for him.”

“The key is to let them know that we’re thinking about them and we’re prepared to support in any way we can so we can send our thoughts and prayers to them.”

He adds an accident of this nature is tough to comprehend regardless of where it takes place.

“You know, my initial reaction when I heard about the accident was one of disbelief and then when we got more information it started to seep in about how serious and how tragic this accident really is and quite frankly it’s unbelievable, tough to get your head around it.”

With Prince George considered as one of the more northern cities in all of the province, sports teams are forced to travel greater distances to reach their destination.

This is something Hall ponders on a regular basis every time a local team hits the highway.

“It shows that this has really hit home and the vigils that are held, are done because there is a real concern for the community of Humboldt and those families who have lost their boys and this really resonates with every community in Canada. We’re a hockey country and we’re a hockey city, I think about the number of times the Spruce Kings, Cariboo Cougars, Prince George Cougars and all of our minor hockey teams that travel day in and day out to various tournaments.”

Thursday is National Jersey Day across Canada to show unity and support for the victims and their families.
