Bob Zimmer hosts roundtable on firearms laws in Prince George

Prince George – Peace River – Northern Rockies Member of Parliament, Bob Zimmer, was in the northern capital this week to discuss firearms laws.

“I wanted to hold this roundtable to have an open conversation about firearms and our current laws. It is important to me that I consult with constituents from Prince George and the region about how they feel about this issue. If people have concerns, it’s my goal to hear those concerns and help with them in any way I can,” said Zimmer in a statement.

“There is a lot of misinformation out there about our current firearms laws, and one of the reasons why I wanted to have this roundtable was to be able to provide accurate information.”

During the discussion, Zimmer and constituents talked about Canad’a current firearms classification system, the legal firearm purchasing process for law-abiding owners, and the Liberal government’s recent introduction of firearms legislation.

“To hear from the regular citizen in Prince George that may be concerned about firearms laws and concerned about too easy of access to firearms,” explains the Conservative MP.

“What we heard, mostly, was concerns from the firearms community about Bill C-71 and it adding red tape and not really doing much to prevent guns getting into the hands of gang members.”

Zimmer will host a similar roundtable later this month in Fort St. John. He also lists the University of Northern BC as an option to hold a future roundtable looking for a more youthful perspective on the issue.
