Second period surge leads Wild to victory over Spruce Kings

It was an undisciplined first game for the Prince George Spruce Kings as they kicked off the Fred Page Cup Final on Friday.

A two-goal second period from the Wenatchee Wild propelled them to a 4-0 victory, improving their playoff record to 9-0 on home ice.

BCHL Goaltender of the Week Evan DeBrouwer kept the Spruce Kings in the game making 52 saves in defeat.

Sam Hesler, AJ Vanderbeck, Jasper Weatherby, and Zak Galambos lit the lamp for Wenatchee.

Weatherby added two assists and now has a 10-point lead in the BCHL playoff scoring race with 33 points (14 goals) in 16 games.

The Wild went two-for-six (2/6) on the power-play, while the Spruce Kings failed to score in their only opportunity.

Prince George was outshot 56-25.

Wenatchee leads the best-of-seven series 1-0 with Game Two set for tonight (Saturday) from the Town Toyota Centre.

Before the game, both teams gathered at centre ice to honor the fallen victims from last week’s bus crash that killed 16 members of the Humboldt Broncos.
