Wenatchee pounces on opportunities to take Game Two over Spruce Kings

You almost have to play a perfect game if you want to beat the Wenatchee Wild at the Town Toyota Center.

An opportunistic effort from the Wild saw their playoff home record improve to 10-0 after a 4-2 victory over the Prince George Spruce Kings on Saturday.

The Spruce Kings are 3-7 on the road.

Blake Hayward lit the lamp twice for the visitors, beating Wild goaltender Austin Park on two occasions from just outside the right faceoff circle.

Wenatchee scored three unanswered times after the Spruce Kings
opened the scoring, and got some much-needed offensive contributions from players not named Jasper Weatherby, who is the BCHL’s leading scorer in the 2018 playoffs.

AJ Vanderbeck tallied twice and added two assists while Lucas Sowder chipped in with his eighth goal of the playoffs.

Spruce Kings goalie Evan DeBrouwer made 30 saves as Wenatchee outshot Prince George 34-15.

Weatherby iced the win with an empty-netter with 44 seconds remaining to give him a whopping 35 points (15 goals) in 17 games.

Ethan de Jong and Patrick Cozzi, who are the two top playoff scorers for Prince George, were held off the score sheet for the second straight game. (The Wild took the opener 4-0)

Wenatchee leads the Fred Page Cup Final 2-0 with Games Three and Four set for Monday and Tuesday at 7PM from the Rolling Mix Concrete Arena (RMCA).

The Spruce Kings are 9-2 on home ice in the playoffs.
