City plans on borrowing over $6 million for upgrades

Two of the bylaws passed at Monday night’s regular council meeting will begin the process of getting elector consent for the City to borrow over six million dollars.

“One is mobile equipment replacement and that’s exactly what it sounds like, we have a bunch of vehicles and equipment that we use to do the work that we carry out and every so often those units need to be replaced,” explains City Director of Finance Kris Dalio.

“The other bylaw was for a Kelly Road North culvert replacement and that is to replace a culvert on Kelly Road North.”

Just over five million dollars will go into the mobile equipment replacement. The culvert replacement loan totals $1.1 million.

The city will have notices posted in the next couple months to give residents a chance to challenge the loans.

“We advertise the city’s intention of what we intend to do and if the electors disagree with it they have the opportunity to fill out a ballot,” Dalio explains.

“If more than 10% of our registered voters come out and fill out that ballot then we would not be allowed to borrow the money.”

Voters have until July 10th to fill out ballots.
