A new wave of funding for rural internet access has been released by the Provincial Government.
The $1.1 million released today will go towards projects across BC for ‘last mile’ internet access.
Northern Development Trust CEO Janine North says they are trying to reach 100% connectivity in BC by 2021.
“Internet service providers will approach us and explain how they can increase the standard of connectivity for their clients. NDIT then disperses Connect BC funding on an up to 50% grant basis.”
The money is a part of a larger multi year $10 million plan from the Provincial Government to get BC to 100%.
“Internet connectivity allows rural and remote communities to connect with global markets and position small businesses for e-commerce and strengthen the economy.” North said
So far, ABC Communications has received $2.5 million to set up TD-LTE Rural Broadband Networks in rural Prince George and Quesnel, Burns Lake, Fort St. James, Hixon, Cluculz Lake and more communities throughout the Cariboo and Bulkley Valley.
