SD57 has approved the Capital Bylaw that will allow schools access to funding from the Enhancement fund.
Recently, over $900,000 was given to SD57 by the Ministry of Education to help with their Five Year Capital Plan for safety enhancements.
Enhancements related to radon gas mitigation will see $455,000 go to:
- College Heights Secondary
- DP Todd Secondary
- Edgewood Elementary
- Harwin Elementary
- Quinson Elementary
- Spruceland Elementary
The remaining $475,000 will go towards a new dust collection system for the woodwork classroom at Prince George Secondary School.
Chairperson Tim Bennett says this government funding will help other areas in the district save money.
“It allows our annual facility grant funding to stretch that much further. Our facility services staff do a great job stretching every dollar of our annual facility grant and by being able to complete some of the work using a different pool of money just means they are going to be able to stretch that dollar much further.”
All projects are expected to be completed by March 31st, 2019.
