Gallant, in quest of a new challenge, lands at UNBC

After playing two Pacific Western Athletic Association (PACWEST) seasons at Quest University, Julia Gallant feels she is ready for the next level.

The five-foot-six point guard has been added to the roster of the UNBC Timberwolves women’s basketball team for the 2018-19 Canada West season.

“I love the game, so I am really excited. This has been a dream of mine for years, so this will be a big jump, said Gallant in a team release.”

She started 17 games for the Kermodes in the 2017-18 season, averaging 8.3 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 2.1 steals per game.

In February, Quest University announced the discontinuation of its varsity athletics programs.

Gallant feels her time with the Kermodes was critical in her development as a player.

“It helped me work on my fundamentals, and helped me to grow as a team player, and as a leader. But, this jump is going to help me speed up my game.”

Timberwolves coach Sergey Shchepotkin was impressed with Gallant when she visited the Prince George campus.

“Julia brings a lot of really valuable experience to our team. She has proven at her time at Quest that she processes the game quickly, and plays with aggressiveness.”

The native of Victoria, who graduated from Mount Douglas in 2016, will pursue a Bachelor of Arts at UNBC.
