Ride share option from Mackenzie to Prince George put on the table by local woman

A ridesharing program to and from Mackenzie has been launched by a Prince George woman.

Jessika Rothel has been giving people rides for just over a year and used to live in Mackenzie.

Like many rural communities, Rothel knows how tough it can be to get to a bigger city.

“A lot of people there come to Prince George twice a month just to go to Costco and we all come here but sometimes it’s extremely difficult to afford it and be able to get here.”

“There’s not a lot of people who sell vehicles and a lot of people who don’t have their license and I go there once a week anyway so it’s just smart for me to help people out.”

Rothel normally charges $20 for anyone who travels with her.

However, on the odd occasion, an exception will be made since the financial situation for most families in that area can be tight at best.

“When you have children, life happens right? sometimes you can only budget and afford food and I would rather have someone with food in their stomach that can provide for their family rather than pay the gas or potentially hitchhike, which is dangerous on our highways.”
