Two nearby communities receive federal funding

Communities across the country received funding Monday from the Canadian Government and the Federation of Canadian Municipalities for infrastructure planning and green innovation projects. The announcement was made by Infrastructure and Communities Minister Amarjeet Sohi and FCM President Jenny Gerbasi.

Of the 50 initiatives receiving money, two come just outside of Prince George.

McBride is benefitting from $50,000 for a building asset condition project. It is coming from the Municipal Asset Management Program.

Valemount and the Valemount Community Forest Company Limited is getting $30,100 from the Green Municipal Fund. It will go into the stage II preliminary site investigation at the historic sawmill complex.

“FCM is proud to see these municipalities showing such commitment to building more resilient and sustainable communities. They are taking steps to strengthen decision-making on infrastructure spending, which has a major impact on the day-to- day lives of their residents. What’s even more encouraging is the exchange of knowledge and the scaling-up of green initiatives that will help us achieve national sustainability goals,” said Gerbasi in a statement.

In total, the MAMP and GMF initiatives provided $3,000,957 to projects throughout Canada with Monday’s announcement.
