Economic impact of Northern FanCon 2018 could be one million dollars: Tourism PG

About 10,000 people went to Northern FanCon 2018. Of that, it is estimated ten percent of those are people from outside Prince George.

Tourism PG CEO Erica Hummel believes the economic impact, once everything is factored in, could total upwards of one million dollars for the city.

“People that come spend the night, they eat out, they buy the ticket for the event, and each visitor probably spent two nights, I’d imagine, because it’s a three day event.”

Northern FanCon featured comic and film artists, creative workshops, cosplay contests, live interviews of celebrity guests, and a pop culture trade show. It was the fourth edition of the event.

Considering the time of year the event is held, Hummel notes how impressive it is to bring in such a large crowd.

“We’re still in our shoulder season, school is not quite out yet for most so we’re looking at hotel capacity that really needs this event,” she explains.

“This is a really good time of year to put on these special niche events to fill our city and provide that extra economic lift right before the summer starts.”

More than 50,000 people have gone to Northern FanCon events over the four years it has ran.
